Mario Merialdi, MPH, MD

Dr. Merialdi obtained a degree in Medicine at the University of Parma in 1991 and completed the residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the same University in 1995. From 1995 to 2001, he attended the Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, USA, where he obtained a Masters of Public Health in 1996 and a PhD in 2001. As a part of his PhD program he was in Peru from 1998 to 2001 to run a study of prenatal zinc supplementation and fetal growth and neurobehavioral development.

Prior to joining BD, Dr. Merialdi served as the coordinator of Human Reproduction and as a Medical Officer in the Maternal and Perinatal Health Research Unit at the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. He worked in the design, implementation and coordination of large multinational epidemiological studies involving research institutions in developed and developing countries. Mario Merialdi’s research interests are focusing on issues related to the reduction of maternal and newborn mortality worldwide. He is a strong supporter of the need to foster international research collaborations between researchers from developing and developed countries.
